2025 Initiatives

The San Francisco Dharma Collective is excited to announce our new initiatives!

Accessibility Initiative

In alignment with our mission to create a welcoming and inclusive space, the SFDC is in the early stages of an initiative to increase the accessibility of our space and offerings for people with a variety of (dis)abilities.

This initiative will influence the culture of the SFDC sangha to increase awareness and see accessibility as an act of love, beginning with the board and teachers and spreading to volunteers and everyone at SFDC.

We aim to:

- - Increase knowledge of general (dis)ability/(dis)ability justice - what it is / language

- - Increase awareness that accessibility and the dharma intersect in interesting ways.

- - Inspire & get buy-in to increasing accessibility at SFDC

- - Reflect on how we are doing as a community related to accessibility/inclusion.

- - Move toward more inclusivity at SFDC

Sangha for Spanish Speakers

In alignment with our mission to create a welcoming and inclusive space, the SFDC has started a Sangha to better serve our Latinx community.

This sangha is led by Mareni Orduña and supports the wider Latinx community through regular classes that are in Spanish and aligned with the unique culture of our community. Classes emphasize embodied awareness, and include movement and meditation. The program is accessible to all, regardless of age, income, or previous experience with meditation or Buddhism. Weekly classes support new and seasoned meditators to experience the effects of regular meditation. Our audio-visual system allows folks to attend in-person or online (or both!)

We are partnering with several local community organizations & looking for new partners.

The SF Dharma Collective is actively seeking community partners, funding, and Spanish-speaking volunteers, including Zoom hosts, to support our Spanish Sangha. Please donate here or contact sfdharmacollective@gmail.com to offer support!

Mareni Orduña

Mareni Orduña (she/her/ella) is a bilingual and bicultural mindfulness and meditation teacher. While growing up in Mexico, she began practicing meditation at a young age at her father’s martial arts school. Following her artistic spirit and adventurous heart, she migrated to the USA to pursue a BA in World Music and Cultures at San Francisco State University. Since 2014, she has offered dynamic mindfulness, yoga, and meditation classes to youth and adults in the Bay Area. In addition, Mareni works as a language interpreter. She is passionate about this work because it puts her at the service of the Latinx community by bridging the cultural and language gap for the Limited English Proficient (LEP) folks.

Mareni found refuge in her yoga and meditation practices to support herself while integrating into a new country. She enjoys nature, hiking, cooking, traveling, and studying flamenco dance and music. She is a Vipassana meditator and practices ancestral healing traditions from the Mesoamerican Cosmovision. She continues the legacy of her abuelas while preparing her own herbal remedies and skin care products.

Mareni will be offering regular classes in Spanish starting in 2025 in collaboration with local community organizations.
