SF Sangha with Jorge Lopez (Hybrid)
Tuesday, February 10th, 1:00am - 3:00am UTC
Jorge Lopez leads the sangha tonight on the timely topic of uncertainty.
Jorge Lopez found Buddhism in a dark place: prison.
After losing his freedom at the age of 19, and being misled in life for the first 9 years of his incarceration, he found Buddhism. It was not easy dealing with prison society as a Mexican American who was practicing Buddhism.
Jorge found the path of the Theravada tradition in the lineage of Ajahn Chah. The four noble truths and the Eight fold path were his guide through prison life, and helped him face the uncertainty that comes with living in such an environment.
After his release, he had another culture shock. After spending 23 years incarcerate, he found that society had changed, and he landed in San Francisco, a city that it is very different from the one he grew up in.
Jorge has found that there are many, different challenges that came after his release. The four noble truths and the eightfold path continue to guide his life.
Come as you are. Leave as you must.
Spiritual Friends Sangha is a growing, living, ever changing community. We gather to celebrate our joys and care for our sorrows, together, so that we may be nourished by reality and not fear it.
We are relational human beings, we need each other. We need community.
Buddha laid out a path that leads to the end of this suffering.
Let’s journey it together!
